FAQs – Acoustic Showcase & Open Mic Night

Do I need to be an experienced performer?

Not at all! Everyone is welcome, from complete beginners taking their first steps on stage to experienced musicians. It's all about sharing music in a friendly, relaxed and supportive atmosphere.

What kind of performances are welcome?

All sorts! Acoustic singers, guitarists, pianists, singer-songwriters, instrumentalists, duos and small groups are all welcome. Original songs, covers, spoken word and other creative performances are encouraged too.

Can I perform on my own?

Absolutely! Solo singers and musicians are very welcome. You don't need to be part of a band or group to take part.

Do I need to bring my own instruments?

Please bring your own instrument where possible. A PA system, microphones and keyboard will be available for performers to use.

Do I need to book a performance slot?

We recommend it! A limited number of slots can be reserved in advance by emailing talena@laystonmusic.co.uk. There will also be a few first come, first served slots available on the night, so arrive early to get your name down.

How long is each performance slot?

Each performer will have approximately 10 minutes on stage. That's usually enough time for two or three songs, depending on their length and your setup.

What is the Acoustic Showcase?

Each month, we'll feature a headline acoustic act alongside our open mic performers. It's a chance to enjoy some fantastic live music, discover new artists and support local talent.

Can I just come along and watch?

Of course! You don't have to perform to enjoy the evening. Come along, grab a drink, listen to some live music and support the performers. Everyone is welcome!

Is there an entry fee?

No! Entry is completely FREE for performers and audience members alike. Food and drinks can be purchased separately from the venue.

Do I need to bring backing tracks?

You're welcome to perform with backing tracks if needed. Please let us know in advance so we can make sure your setup works with the available sound equipment.

How often does it run?

Our Acoustic Showcase & Open Mic Night takes place every third Wednesday of the month.

How do I book a slot or ask a question?

Simply email talena@laystonmusic.co.uk with your name, what you'd like to perform and any equipment requirements. We'll be happy to help!

Can children and young performers take part?

Young musicians are very welcome, provided they're accompanied by a responsible adult and the performance is suitable for the venue.

What's the atmosphere like?

Relaxed, welcoming and encouraging! Whether it's your first time performing or your hundredth, we're here to celebrate live music, build confidence and bring our local music community together.

Talena Cuthbert

"This kind of space is exactly why I do what I do. There’s something powerful about a room full of people singing together — no pressure, no judgement, just proper, loud, feel-good music. Singing helps us breathe better, release stress and reconnect with ourselves and each other. After more than 20 years as a vocal coach, I’ve seen how much confidence and joy people can gain just from being given permission to use their voice. Rock Sing Club isn’t about being perfect or performing — it’s about turning up, getting stuck in and leaving feeling better than when you walked in. If that sounds like your kind of thing, I’d love you to come and be part of it."
